I had a big reveal prepared for the launch of my street team—Baddies & Saddies—where my newsletter was supposed to be the first to know. It seems Substack (or more accurately, my stress-riddled brain) had other ideas. I was surprised to find no email was ever sent and instead, the draft rested in my inbox.
Another lesson showing that even with the best of intentions, we can still come up short.

Another cool thing I’ve launched is the Indie Networking Group (ING).
The ING is a professional networking group for anyone in the indie publishing industry. It’s a place where we can talk about the business side of publishing, network, and practice our pitches and sales with like-minded individuals. The group is brand new but I’m excited for it to evolve and for us to have our first Zoom Meeting.
While going on my own indie publishing journey I realized how, more often than not, it feels like we’re all just shouting into the void. But I’ve talked to a few indies who are doing really well and a whole bunch who have no idea what they’re doing or they’re introverted and extremely uncomfortable with the prospect of selling their books or services.
Since I’ve participated in and organized small business networking groups, I thought I would bring those concepts into the creative space. My hope is that everyone who wants to take the next step towards making writing their business can find and help each other get there!
